Protests Disrupt Travel in France
United States had to issue a travel advisory for France to its citizens, due to nearly 1 million protestors flooding streets, rail stations and subway stations, according to reports. The protests were due to a change in France's labor laws. Although the demonstrations were for the most part, peaceful, Americans were advised to leave, or to change travel plans during the late March stand-off, which was a busy Spring Break travel time. No US citizens were hurt during the protests, and while several airlines cancelled flights into Paris, ruining many traveler's plans, things seem to be under control now. |

Danger on the Seas: Is it Safe to Cruise? Passengers lost at Sea....Norwalk virus outbreaks...Fires and smoke... Cruise guests die in a bus accident on one of the cruise stops..... It seems that these days the Cruise Industry has been dealt a major blow. This has affected even experienced cruisers, but most especially staunch "anti-cruisers" who have long had fears of being in the "middle of nowhere" or "lost at sea". Being in this industry, I hear both sides of the coin. There are those that will travel NO other way except by cruises. Then there are those who will not set foot off dry land. The only thing here that remains are the facts. And the facts say that Cruising is STILL the safest, and most economic way to travel to other parts of the world. More safe than air travel, even more safe than driving by car. Considering the recent events that have taken place, there have been little or no fatalities directly due to a cruise's mishaps, or by fault of the cruise line itself. Cruises are also good for compensating its guests when a major disruption occurs: such as reimbursing the unused portion of the cruise, giving a free cruise to its guests, or re-accommodating them in some way. One inescapable fact is also that, many of the problems that have occurred on these vessels were actually a result of an individual or individuals' carelessness on the ship, and not the crew or ship itself. Truthfully, most cruisers will agree: cruising is fun, affordable and hassle-free. First time cruisers usually ask us tons of questions about sea-sickness and being "out at sea", with fear and trepidation! But at the end of the voyage, it's always positive feedback, and total relaxation. So in answer to the question, "is it safe to cruise"? My answer? YES! And I can't wait for my next one.... |
